Challenge

As you can see, hospitality and traditions are an important part of the ethos that thrives throughout the Brehon Hotel, so we were honoured when the team at The Brehon approached Aqua Libra to source a sustainable water solution to eliminate single use plastics within The Brehon hotel and Spa. Before the collaboration with Aqua Libra, guests at The Brehon Hotel would get 2 bottles of packaged water per room. This meant that multiple creates of glass bottles were transported throughout the hotel on a daily basis. Circa 64,000 bottles a year were being disposed, which was a massive labour operation, not to mention the high wastage costs occurred within the process. Neil Grant, General Manager at The Brehon is extremely passionate about ensuring sustainability is at the forefront of their operations. Whilst reducing costs is important, it was imperative for the team to embrace their ‘Green’ initiatives and reduce the need for single use packaging and waste.

Reduction in packaging waste

The Aqua Libra refillable water systems provide a more sustainable, efficient way of offering filtered, great tasting water to the guests and diners at the Danú Restaurant. The hospitality team now have the facility to refill and reuse high quality Aqua Libra branded glass bottles, whilst in turn minimizing their environmental footprint by sourcing and filtering local water, which is at the heart of the Hotel. The award-winning restaurant, Danú at The Brehon, prides itself on delivering a dining experience of food that is beautifully presented, using locally sourced, flavoursome ingredients. “Sometimes people forget that non-filtered water with a meal can take away from the experience. For our guests that are coming and having a nice meal at The Brehon, we can now guarantee they are getting beautiful chilled filtered water, we feel that we've enhanced the experience in this area.”. In July 2024, the active ‘Green Team’ at The Brehon Hotel invested and installed a further two Aqua Libra, Alto filtered water hydration stations within the Anú Spa, providing the guests with perfectly refreshing, chilled water on demand. The Brehon Hotel team appreciate the environmental and economic benefits of the Aqua Libra Taps, saving water and energy.

Aqua Libra met the criteria for selecting the optimal sustainable filtered water solution.

“We felt like putting the Aqua Libra system in it was very much a way that we could eradicate 64,000 bits of packaging…so in terms of our sustainability efforts, it's made an enormous difference. Introducing the Aqua Libra systems has been one of the most crucial things that we've done in terms of reducing packaged waste in our in our business. It has helped to reduce our single use packaging and whilst you can have glass bottles or you can have Tetra packs, it's all packaging.” Neil Grant, General Manager
